Starke Teak Clean
Starke Teak Clean is a next level cleaner and brightener that is gentle on caulk seams but tough on stains. This 2 part solution is perfect for cleaning grey teak that has lost its luster.
Before starting, wet the teak and the surrounding area. Use rubber gloves and eye protection. Pour part A into a bucket. It can be diluted up to 4 to 1 or used full strength. With wood still wet, pour part A onto the teak or apply with brush/scouring pad. Lightly scrub in circular motion against the grain. Once the entire surface turns blackish, let it set in for 2-3 minutes.
When applying part 2 use a separate bucket and brush/scouring pad. Part A is an acid and Part 2 is a base. They will neutralize each other upon contact. This chemical reaction needs to happen on the teak, not in your bucket or brush. This is also why it’s important to use both part A and B to leave your teak looking a natural golden brown. Once Part B has been rubbed into the same teak as part A, the work is done. Rinse everything off and your teak will look brand new!
If you are seeing a lot of black from the caulk lines from part A. Hose off teak before neutralizing with part B.
Be careful using this product. The acid will burn paint, stainless and other metals if left to dry and not rinsed down with water.
How to Use Starke Teak Clean
Materials Needed:
- Rubber gloves
- Eye protection
- Two buckets (one for Part A and one for Part B)
- Soft brush or scouring pad
- Hose for rinsing
Step 1: Preparation
- Wet the teak and surrounding areas thoroughly with water.
- Protect yourself by wearing rubber gloves and eye protection.
- Pour Part A into a bucket. It can be diluted up to 4:1 with water for lighter cleaning or used full strength for tougher stains.
Step 2: Apply Part A (Cleaner)
- With the wood still wet, pour Part A onto the teak or apply it using a brush or scouring pad.
- Lightly scrub in circular motions against the grain of the wood.
- Allow Part A to sit for 2-3 minutes. The surface will turn blackish as the cleaner works.
Step 3: Rinse (Optional, if excessive blackening occurs)
- If you notice heavy black buildup, rinse the teak with water before moving to Part B.
Step 4: Apply Part B (Brightener/Neutralizer)
- Pour Part B into a separate bucket. Do not mix it with Part A.
- Apply Part B to the same area using a clean brush or scouring pad.
- Scrub lightly in circular motions, ensuring Part B makes contact with all areas where Part A was applied.
- The reaction between the two solutions will neutralize the acid and restore the teak to a natural golden brown color.
Step 5: Final Rinse
- Rinse the entire area thoroughly with water to remove all traces of both products.
Additional Tips:
- Be cautious around painted surfaces, stainless steel, and other metals; the acid in Part A can cause damage if not rinsed off immediately.
- Always complete the process with Part B to neutralize the acid and achieve optimal results.
- Avoid letting either solution dry on the surface—work in manageable sections.
With Starke Teak Clean, your teak will regain its natural beauty and luster!
